MBF's Mission & Vision
Mission: To foster the conservation of North American monarch butterflies and their migration through habitat conservation, research, monitoring, education and support for sustainable community development in and near monarch habitats in Mexico.
Vision: Healthy ecosystems and sustainable communities that preserve North American Monarch butterflies and their spectacular migration in perpetuity.
To love a place is not enough. We must find ways to heal it.
The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in the states of Mexico & Michoacán
The Monarch Butterfly Fund works to protect and improve the fragile lands on which monarch butterflies depend. In particular, we focus on a small area in central Mexico where eastern and some western North American monarchs spend the winter.

Conservation requires collaboration
MBF recognizes that monarch conservation requires a multifaceted approach that:
- protects monarch hibernation habitat and migratory routes
- generates skills and abilities in local communities for forest management and administration and
- improves the economic well-being of local residents.
MBF promotes and supports collaboration between organizations and individuals engaged in these activities.
