Recognizing that sound science is key to effective conservation, MBF supports scientific research with direct relevance to conservation in the overwintering sites, including habitat and species assessments. Our Scientific Research and Monitoring funding supports scientists studying the ecology and conservation of monarchs in Mexico.
Sample project: Assisted Migration - racing against climate change
Climate change affects all of us, including the forests where monarchs overwinter. One MBF-supported project is exploring this issue by experimenting with tree growth at various altitudes and under diverse conditions, simulating various climate change scenarios. The project is titled "Assisted Migration" and has been supported by MBF since 2014.
